Roland Rolls Siyapa to Win Cup

Man of the Match Roland Knudson rolled back the years with a spell of 4 for 6 as the 2nd XI claimed the Bon Accord Cup in fine style at Peoples Park, stunning favourites and league leaders Siyapa. Having posted a very competitive 136 for 8 from 20 overs, Rajaa Monnapillai and Ranald Wilkie ripped through the top order to reduce Siyapa to 8 for 4 in the 3rd over, before Knudson took over claiming a triple wicket maiden as Siyapa were bundled out for just 68. Sean Harrower took the final wicket(2/13) as FPs straight bowling lead to a string of batsmen being bowled or LBW.

With the bat for FPs, there were contributions throughout without anyone making a big score. Clelland 23, Gubbala’s 19 and various double figure contributions from others, as well as 21 extras meant it was a good all round showing from the team.

Team: Nattrass 11, Clelland (w) 23, Sood (c) 3, Gubbala 19, Wilkie 16, Haider 16, Barker 3, Youles 12*, Monnapillai 16, Harrower 0*, Knudson DNB.

Rain Interferes Again but 2nds win bowl off

Yet again this season rain put paid to cricket as both 1s and 2s were unable to get any play at home to Cults or away to Stonehaven. After 1s lost a bowl off on Thursday to go out of the cup, 2s at least did win their bowl off, by a margin of 2-1, Sean Harrower and Kapil Bali with the hits.

With Freuchie scratching in the CS Challenge Cup on Sunday, FPs have another weekend with no cricket but at least are through to play Huntly at home 2 weeks on Sunday.

Hopefully next weekend will see some better weather.

2nds Keep Up Winning Run

Aman Sood has been in good all round form

2nds kept up their great start to the 2019 season with a 3rd win from 3 as they continued to vanquish memories of 2018’s tricky campaign. Skipper Aman Sood was again to the fore hitting 72 of FPs 230 for 7 but was well supported by Ian Johnston (21) in a 101 run stand for the 3rd wicket. Elia Gubbala also made 27 and Mahesh Challa 23. The score was further boosted by 48 extras including 36 wides.

With the ball Mahesh Challa gave a nudge to the selectors with his 10 overs garnering him 3 for 25. Amand Sood and Sean Harrower both chipped in with 2 wickets, while Gubbala, Roland Knudson and Paul Norwood each took 1. FPs were well in charge when 2nd Knightriders slipped to 122 for 9, but a last wicket stand of 79 lifted the away side to 201 all out, thanks to 62 from Jaggavarapu and 32 not out from last man Tewari.

Chris Clelland continued his quest for the wicket keeping prize with another 3 victims in the 29 run win. Next up is a tricky away game at Methlick for FPs.

style with 2 wins from 2.  New skipper Aman Sood and wicketkeeper Chris Clelland have been the key performers both scoring runs in each game and Aman picking up 4 wickets. Kapil Bali has also picked up 4 wickets in the opening 2 fixtures.

On the opening day FPs defeated Banchory in a tight game by 5 wickets with 8 balls remaining. Having been set 177 for victory thanks to 70 from Hicks, they batted carefully in dreadful conditions to ease home, Chris Clelland with 47 not out, Aman Sood with 32 and 25 from Aly MacDonald.

The 2nd game took FPs to Fraserburgh on a bitterly cold day and despite being depleted with 9 nine men due to drop outs, they pulled off a very impressive 36 run win. Again assisted by Aman 44 and Clelland 43, they made 146 all out.  An excellent bowling and fielding display meant they were able to dismiss the home side for 100, Aman claiming 3 for 23 Kapil Bali 2 for 13 and Sean Harrower 2 for 44. Chris Clelland also claimed 4 catches and a stumping in a fine all round showing. The game was sealed with 2 run outs.

Next up they face 2nd Knightriders at Rubislaw.

Friendly Start to the New Season

Overcast skies, wind and showers met Grammar at Countesswells for the Victory Shield match against traditional rivals Gordonians. Format to be 40 overs with 8 overs max per bowler. Showers quickly went and we even got some warm sun for our fielding.

First time Grammar captain won the toss and the easiest decision was his as we only had five players at that point. Batting first in bowling-friendly conditions was not ideal but as a friendly match with a competitive edge, at least it would buy us some time for the other 3 to turn up. With 11 at the start, he would have surely bowled first. Continue reading
