1s and 2s both receive walkovers

With Inverurie unable to raise a side for a number of reasons, 1s have joined 2s in receiving a walkover this week. It is sure to boost takings at the Great Western.

2nds Losing Headache Continues

2s were well beaten by 9 wickets by Fraserburgh on Saturday but the game was somewhat overshadowed by a bad injury to Sean Harrower who was knocked unconscious in the field. Thankfully he is on the road to recovery and is expected to return to action in 4 weeks’ time.

FPs were put in to bat and opener Tom Murray made a strong 33 in an opening stand of 46, but after he fell, wickets tumbled regularly with only Aly MacDonald (25) and Leston D’Costa (22) making double figures as FPs were 115 all out, O’Neill with 5 for 16.

2s were boosted by the returns of all-rounders Kieran Whyte and Matt Barker for this game and despite their efforts with the ball, 2s could only claim 1 wicket, Harrower doing so before his injury. It took 32 overs for the target to be reached due to tight bowling from Harrower, Whyte and D’Costa. The late introduction of Ian Johnston sadly did not deliver the wicket that everyone craved.

2s face Stoneywood Dyce next if their opponents are able to raise a team which so far has not been possible in Grade 2.

2s Denied by 2nd Knightriders

Agha Haider made 66 and claimed 2 wickets

2s once again turned in a strong showing but were unable to get over the line and eventually lost by 3 wickets despite a spirited bowling display. Agha Haider had helped 2s post 170 all out, hitting 66 while opening the batting. Haider and Johnston (11) put on 104 for the 1st wicket, helped by numerous extras, but once Johnston was run out, FPs batting collapsed with only Aly MacDonald 20 and Gary Stuart 15 not out making double figures. Extras were one short of a half-century which boosted the home side’s score.

FPs took regular wickets and reduced the visitors to 88 for 6, but despite a sustained effort, 2s only managed 1 more wicket as 44 from Waqar to go with his 5 wickets saw the visitors home.

2s Fail to Breach Portcullis

Despite an excellent unbeaten 60 from Aman Sood, 2s fell short by 26 runs against Portcullis at the Duthie Park on Saturday. After Portcullis had posted 169 for 8 in their 40 overs, 2s had been well set at 130 for 4, only to lose their last 6 wickets for 13 runs, Mitchell taking 5 for 12. Bowling-wise for FPs Sean Harrower picked up 4 for 26 and Roland Knudson 2 for 28.

Rajaa’s All Round Exploits not enough for 2s

Despite Rajaa Monnapillai’s best efforts in making 43 and claiming 4 for 10 in his 9 overs, 2s fell to a 3 wicket defeat from the 3rd last ball of the match to Methlick. In a closely contested game, FPs fell to 6 for 3 and 36 for 5, but a stand of 56 between Rajaa and Paul Norwood helped 2s recover and ultimately bat all but 5 balls of their allocation in making 128 all out.

When they reduced the visitors to 18 for 3 as youngster Alderson took a fine catch, 2s looked well placed and they then had Methlick 88 for 7, but a 42 run stand with Grant Cordiner making 21 not out saw the visitors home in a well-balanced game.
