An astonishing maiden century from Hasnain Javaid propelled FPs to victory against Fraserburgh after his side had fallen to 81 for 6. He smashed 7 fours and 9 sixes in his 108 from 80 balls and was well supported by debutant Ben Garwood who made 20 in a stand 57 and Jim Lee who stuck in as part of another 57 run stand making 3. Fraserburgh started well and a whirlwind half century from Rohani had them right in the hunt at 81 for 1, but after Agha Haider superbly bowled him, Fraserburgh lost regular wickets as FPs closed out an 87 run win.
FPs lost the toss and were put in and welcomed back Mike Nattrass at the top of the order, Ben Garwood also debuted as FPs lined up Keith, Nattrass, Swiergon, Haider, Penman, Javaid, Morrison, Garwood, Lee, Prash, Norwood.
FPs made very slow progress scoring just 18 off the 1st 10 overs for the loss of Nattrass for 12, who took on Duthie only to be run out by a fine direct hit. Swiergon was promptly bowled for a duck, trying to cut Gospel and Keith followed soon after edging Rennie to the keeper for 15. Penman made 4 ahead of being harshly adjudged LBW, when he had seemed to make good contact with his bat. Morrison and Swiergon took an executive decision to promote Javaid to try and get some momentum into the innings and they could have not imagined what a success it would be. Haider and Javaid quickly doubled the score and were at 80 at drinks, but Haider went to a full toss 1st ball back for 17. Morrison quickly followed LBW to Gospel for a duck as FPs slid to 81 for 6.
New man Garwood joined Javaid who was teeing off blasting some huge sixes to keep FPs alive. Garwood smashed his own maximum and Fraserburgh just had no answer to Javaid’s hitting as we went into overdrive. Garwood was bowled for 20, but some crafty play from Lee ensured that Javaid kept the strike and more importantly kept the runs coming. Lee was doing superbly in the ‘Leach’ role and it was only when attempting his own big hit, do he fall for an extremely valuable 3. Prash strolled in and played a magnificent straight drive for 4 and saw Javaid to his ton from 74 balls. Javaid finally fell for an extraordinary 108 with 3 balls remaining allowing Norwood to get a bat.
Finishing on 223 for 9 always appeared a winning score but after the recent defeat to Posrtcullis, FPs knew they could take nothing for granted. Prash got FPs off to an excellent start bowling Bowie for 7 with a beauty that shaped in and nipped away to clip the off stump. Morrison and Keith then both came extremely close to one handed diving catches but neither could cling on and Rohani took full advantage with a superb knock, blasting 52 in 30 balls before Haider bowled him. FPs then took control with regular wickets, Gospel castled by Javaid for 2 and opener Gray brilliantly caught and bowled by Javaid who could do no wrong.
Shirzad was well held by Prash after FPs had shelled a number of chances and Javaid joined in for some more success clutching a fine high catch as Swiergon returned to try and push for victory. Garwood who had earlier shelled a chance more than made up with a brilliant run out of Gillies and then grabbed a fine boundary catch as Swiergon removed Khan for 17. This left Fraserburgh 126 for 8 and Morrison who had earlier been keeping wicket was summoned up to finish things off taking 11 balls to bowl Duthie for 3 and then have last Man Rennie LBW for a duck.
Bowling figures for FPs were Prash 6-3-5-1, Swiergon 8-0-20-2, Haider 8-0-53-2, Garwood 2-0-34-0, Javaid 8-0-21-2 and Morrison 1.5-0-3-2.
In a game that was played in a good spirit, FPs were pleased to win by 87 runs but Fraserburgh more than played their part and without Javaid the result could have been much different. FPs face Fraserburgh again next week in a quirk of the fixtures before playing Abergreen in the cup final at Mannofield on Sunday.
