2021 Award Winners

Ahead of the 2002 season – we take some time to reflect on 2021 and in particular who won what at the annual club awards for 2021.

 

We go through each trophy with a bit of background on the history, the criteria and who the 2021 winner was,

AGSFP Batting – 1st XI Trophy
First presented for 1963 season by an unknown donor (do advise if you know the original donor)
Awarded for highest batting average in 1st XI.
2021 winner was Fraser Proud who scored 318 runs at an average of 127, and a high score of 104.

AGSFP Bowling – 1st XI Trophy
First presented for 1963 seaso
Awarded for lowest average in 1st XI.
The 2021 winner was Harry Mapplebeck with an average of 10,3. With a best of 2 for 23.

AM Davidson Memorial Trophy
Presented by Mrs Ann Davidson, the widow of Sandy Davidson in his memory.
First presented for 1978 Season.
‘Awarded to the person who was deemed to have done the most for the Section during the year.

This was won by Conner McKinney who travelled up from the south of Scotland most weeks to play for the team, investing many, many hours of his own time to help the team. Scored 186 runs and was sensational in the field. He also chipped in with some vital wickets,

Stewart Trophy
Presented by Dr Alastair Stewart
First presented for 1976 season, originally ‘to be awarded to the player in the Strathmore Union XI who contributed most to the game during the year, the award to be decided by the Captain, Vice-captain and President in consultation with Dr Stewart.’
This has generally been interpreted as a batting award.
According to a decision at the 2003 AGM, this will be awarded for the person with the highest aggregate runs in the 1st XI as from season 2004.
The 2021 winner was Robert Swiergon with 596 runs at 74.5 and a high score of 81 not out

Stewart Runner-up Cup
Presented by Dr Alastair Stewart
First presented for 1977 season, originally ‘Ato be awarded to a member of the Strathmore Union XI who in his (Dr Stewart’s) opinion was second to the winner of the Stewart Cup.’
This has generally been interpreted as a bowling award and the qualification (identified on the Cup) is 30 wickets.
According to a decision at the 2003 AGM this will be awarded for the person with the highest aggregate wickets in the 1st XI (whether or not 30+ wkts), as from season 2004
The 2021 winner was Prashanth Poosappadi with 18 wickets at 16.8 with best figures of 2 for 21

Grade XI All Round Trophy
Donated by a group of anonymous donors.
First awarded for 1979 season.
‘Awarded to the most meritorious player each season.’
The Captain and Vice-captain of the Grade XI plus one other member of the team who had played in most of the games in that season were to make the award. The relevant team is interpreted as being the top FP XI in the Grades.
The 2021 winner was Fraser Proud, 381 runs @ 127 and 10 wickets at 10.5 with a best of 5 for 15

Fielding Cup
Donated by a group of anonymous donors.
First awarded for 1980 season.
‘Open to all members of the Section including all 3 teams, for most catches in league matches and excluding wicket-keepers.’
The 2021 winner was Michael Nattrass with 9 catches and many more drops!

Proctor Batting Cup
Donated by Brian Proctor
First awarded for 1981 season (to Iain Hopkin!)
Awarded for highest aggregate runs in 2nd FP XI.
The 2021 winner was Tom Murray with 86 runs at 28.67 and a high score of 37 not out

Hopkin Bowling Cup

First awarded for 1981 season (to Brian Proctor!)
Awarded for highest aggregate runs in 2nd FP XI.
The 2021 winner was Sean Harrower with 7 wickets at 14.57 and a best of 4 for 26

Reserve Grade (All Round) Cup
No record of donor.
First awarded for 1983 season.
Assumed to be for best all rounder in reserve grade since cup appears as Reserve Grade All-round Trophy in AGM minutes in 1986. The relevant team is now interpreted as the 2nd FP XI.
This award goes went to Aman Sood with 153 runs at an average of 25.5 and a top score of 60 along with 8 wickets at 25.13 and best figures of 5 for 14.

‘Moir Bowling Award’
Donated by Doug Moir, father of Dallas & Jeremy
1st awarded in 2011 originally for ‘best bowling performance of the season’ or words to that effect. Has tended to be awarded for the ‘champagne moment’ of the season.

It went to Alex Keith for finally getting his hands on the Aberdeenshire Cup after nearly 40 years of playing and after 6 previous failed attempts. A proper local cricket legend.

The Clubman Award
Donated by Geoff Morrison around 2005.
Awarded to the most selfless player in the 1st or 2nd XI who always puts the team 1st.
It was won by John Thomson for his unflinching commitment, always showing up to support the team even if injured or not selected. A qualified umpire who always puts his hand up for long umpiring stints he also ensures the ground is ready for play. An absolute credit to himself and the club. A true Club man.
