FPs closed their season by winning The Andy Parkin Memorial 6s in Glasgow, rather surprisingly defeating much fancied Glasgow Accies in the final. Rob Swiergon batted superbly throughout and was well supported by Mo Ahmed. With the ball Sam Knudson claimed 5 wickets in his 18 balls during the tournament, regularly removing the danger men.
FPs started slowly as Geoff Morrison (23) and Gary Stuart (13*) could only amass an underwhelming 46 from 5 overs (30 balls) against The BBC. Needing to win to stay in, as BBC had already won, FPs bowled superbly, with Morrison and Knudson in the wickets to restrict BBC to 40.
In the 2nd game against Old Garscubians, FPs conceded far too many 72 but managed to pass the 59 needed to make the final on run rate, Swiergon hitting a couple of vital 6s.
FPs bowled 1st in the final against a confident Glasgow side and Gary Stuart and Sam Knudson both removed dangerous players as Glasgow Accies posted a competitive 50. FPs were always in charge of the chase with Swiergon making 19 not out. They needed 9 from the final over and after 2 singles, the game seemed secure when Ahmed levelled the scores with a huge six over long on with 3 balls remaining. The next two balls were dots, but with a super over looming, Ahmed launched the last ball straight for 6 to end on 18 not out and secure the trophy.
Overall, it was a great day and it was good that FPs could finally secure the trophy at the 3rd attempt, ironically against stronger opposition than in previous years. There was also lots of money raised for charity and Frank Johnstone did a superb job of organising a great event yet again.
